The 2012
International Association for Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) chairman,
Roland Mack visited the country during the last week of May. The visit paved
the way for local industry leaders from the leisure, attractions and amusement
parks industry to dialogue with Mack. Members of the local affiliate
of IAAPA, the Philippine Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (PhilAAPA)
also had the opportunity to discuss with the IAAPA chairman the latest trends
and concerns of both the local and global industry.
Part of the IAAPA chairman’s
tour in the country was a visit to Enchanted Kingdom. Hosted by Enchanted
Kingdom chairman Mario O. Mamon and COO Cynthia R. Mamon, Mack and his wife,
Marianne, toured the country’s only world-class theme park. They were also
joined by Ms. Nadine Fund, Business Development Manager of the
German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.
During the press
conference, Mack stated that the amusement parks and attractions industry in
a global scale is in a “very progressive phase”. As parks are being built
worldwide, the existing parks continue to expand and still develop. “It’s
all about safety, innovation, creativity and quality. It’s a recession
safe industry, if the recession is not too heavy,” Mack explained. As the
Chairman of IAAPA, Mack’s eye is set on strategic development for the industry,
international exchange of ideas and harmonization of safety standards. He sees
the IAAPA as the channel to create an international standard because it is
in the association that competitors get to talk about safety and technical
issues.
